The Phlebotomy Certificate Course at Springfield College is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to safely collect blood and other specimens in healthcare settings. The course emphasizes proper blood collection techniques, specimen handling, and universal precautions.

The course combines theoretical learning and simulation-based practical training, helping students develop hands-on experience and confidence in performing phlebotomy procedures.

Springfield College offers small class sizes of 3–6 students, experienced medical instructors, affordable fees, and personalized training to ensure an effective learning experience. Students benefit from one-on-one support, financial assistance for eligible students, job search guidance, and a certificate upon successful completion.

The college offers several Phlebotomy courses to accommodate different experience levels:

Certificate in Phlebotomy: 16-hour course for healthcare professionals.
Advanced Phlebotomy Certificate: 40-hour course with additional practical training.
Post Graduate Certificate in Phlebotomy: 80-hour comprehensive course with extensive practical training.
Pre-Health & Phlebotomy Course: Combines online pre-health fundamentals with advanced or postgraduate phlebotomy training for beginners.

Skills Acquisition

The objective of the Phlebotomy Certificate Course at Springfield College is to learn the fundamentals and essentials of phlebotomy as the procedure relates to patient care. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

Explain basic anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system.
Define “Routine practices” and “Additional measures” related with blood collection and handling.
Practice the use of medical terminology relating to the circulatory system.
List methods of client and specimen identification.
List the different colors used to code blood specimens and what they stand for.
Demonstrate how to dispense blood using various blood collection techniques and methods.
Outline post-puncture care of the client.
List potential pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical sources of specimen error.

Practicum students practice the blood and specimen collection and handling skills learned in theory class. They practice on various skill-levels simulation arms with non-blood specimen collection procedure. They receive instruction on how to prepare the blood collection site, how to choose the proper collection tools, post-puncture care, and, processing and management of collected samples.
